Dr. Alexandre Cooman is the Director General of Cenipalma in Colombia, where he leads the strategic development of research, extension and innovation programs focused on the sustainable cultivation of oil palm. A trained Agricultural Engineer with a PhD in Applied Biological Sciences, Dr. Cooman specializes in agriculture and environmental management. His career spans roles with the United Nations Environment Programme and GlobalGAP, where he worked to promote international cooperation and sustainable environmental practices. He has also held key academic and consultancy positions, contributing significantly to the development of sustainable agricultural systems. Dr. Cooman's work is particularly focused on innovation for sustainable development, with an emphasis on Latin America and the Caribbean.


At ICOPE 2025, Dr. Cooman will present an overview of the sustainable transformation of the oil palm sector in Colombia, addressing both the situation of large corporations and smallholder farmers.
